The independent agency will leverage Property Inspectâs platform to assist with its federally-funded Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) program and Housing Quality Standards (HQS) inspections
SEATTLE, WA (January 24, 2023) – Property Inspect, the award-winning app for property inspections and reporting, is proud to announce its partnership with the King County Regional Homelessness Authority (KCRHA), uniting in its mission to end homelessness in Seattle and the wider King County, WA area.
In a recent report issued by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the latest available data revealed that 13,368 people were experiencing homelessness in the Seattle/King County area, third only to Los Angeles City & County, CA (65,111) and New York City, NY (61,840).Â
However, statistics can tell only so much of the story â it is the knowledge derived from a lived experience of homelessness that KCRHA puts at the heart of its approach as it works ceaselessly to fulfill its mission of ending homelessness for all.
One way it seeks to do that is through the Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) program, a federally funded scheme for assisting low-income families, the elderly and the disabled, so they are able to afford decent, safe, and sanitary housing in the private market.Â
The vouchers are administered by regional public housing agencies supported by federal funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
King County Regional Homelessness Authority is one such agency administering Housing Choice Vouchers, alongside support and resources that help homeless individuals and families find much-needed stability and security.
Data, proven practices, and community feedback have enabled the organization to design a homelessness response system that helps people most in need. In 2022 alone the system had served close to 10,000 households that have experienced homelessness, 17% of which are families with children.
KCRHA has added the Property Inspect app to its tech stack, which the team uses to carry out Housing Quality Standards (HQS) inspections and habitability certification reports, a requirement under the HCV program.
Housing Quality Standards establish the minimum criteria of a private rental unit and consist of 13 key aspects of housing quality. Using the app, KCRHA can digitize and streamline its HQS inspections, transforming the process from traditional pen and paper to an app and web-based inspection platform, cutting the time it takes to inspect by half and allowing for the quick identification of any compliance and safety issues that could put incoming tenants at risk.
Ray Costello, Director of US Sales, Property Inspect, comments:
